The Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy is a statewide, nonprofit, policy analysis and advocacy organization working to shape policies to improve health, welfare and human services for all New Yorkers, especially those who are poor or vulnerable. Since 1872, the Schuyler Center has served as a voice for social and economic justice and policies that work for children, people living in poverty, and persons who are chronically ill and disabled in New York State.   • SCAA Testifies at State Budget Hearing

    NY: The Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy testified before the Joint Fiscal Committees during the Health/Medicaid budget hearing. The testimony addressed SCAA’s support of: an increased focus on children’s oral health; the Governor’s proposal to ensure the Exchange has a reliable funding source; and funding for a Basic Health Plan.

  • SCAA Releases Policy Brief on Confidentiality and Health Insurance

    NY: The Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy released a policy brief on confidentiality  protections to ensure minors, young adults and adults who are non-primary policy holders  feel safe using their health insurance and do not forgo needed health care services.  The brief outlines recommendations for New York insurance companies to increase awareness of and improve confidentiality policies.

    NY: Kate Breslin, CEO of Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy (SCAA), was featured on a WCNY Podcast highlighting the importance of health insurance for low-income children and the positive impact NY’s Marketplace will have on low-income families.     NY: The Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy’s (SCAA) President and CEO Kate Breslin issued a statement  on launch of the New York Health Exchange Marketplace in which she noted that Marketplaces are, “a smart way to strengthen families and communities across the state.”

     

    Health Care For All New York (HCFANY) launched its new website in celebration of the kick-off of the Health Insurance Marketplaces. The new website includes health policy resources, the HCFANY blog that provides health policy updates, a story bank that features personal stories from New Yorkers and a list of upcoming HCFANY events.

     

    Community Service Society of New York (CSS) posted an infographic that provides insight on the new health insurance options available starting January 1st, including information on how to apply and enroll for coverage through the new Marketplaces.

  • KidsWell New York Held Meeting on ACA Implementation

    NY: Health Care for All New York (HCFANY), in collaboration with the Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy (SCAA), hosted a Children Youth and Families Task Force meeting on June 7th to provide an update on ACA implementation efforts in New York. Sherry Tomasky, Director of Stakeholder Engagement for the New York Health Benefit Exchange, presented an update on the Exchange’s implementation and outreach and enrollment efforts. Martine Apodaca, Director of the Public Education Campaign for Enroll America, presented an overview of New York’s uninsured population and health insurance messaging option strategies.   • SCAA Publishes an Overview of the 2013-14 NYS Budget

    NY: The Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy published an overview of the New York State 2013-14 budget that the Legislature passed on March 28th. The budget included provisions to assist the state in implementing the ACA, including: premium assistance for individuals eligible for Family Health Plus; consumer protections relating to individuals with out-of-network coverage and the Navigator program; the development of a workgroup to study a basic health program; and consumer assistance funding for Community Health Advocates. 
  • New York Advocates Hold Emergency Coalition Call and Publish Recommendations on ACA Implementation in State Budget

    NY: Health Care For All New York held an emergency coalition call on March 11th to discuss ACA implementation issues addressed in the New York State 2014 FY budget, including key issues on Medicaid Expansion and the Exchange. The call agenda included a breakdown of budget priorities by Elisabeth Benjamin and Carrie Tracey of Community Service Society, and various legislative advocacy activities, such as organizing a sign-on letter, attending a legislative press event, and calling important legislative officials.  In addition, the Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy published its recommendations on the budget.

    The Children, Youth & Families Task Force of Health Care For All New York (HCFANY), in collaboration with the Children’s Defense Fund - NY, Community Service Society of New York, and the Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy, held a meeting on May 9, 2012 in Albany. The agenda focused on the newly signed Executive Order to establish a state-based Exchange. In addition, Judy Arnold of the New York Department of Health will be featured as a speaker.
