MomsRising was developed by women to advocate for critical issues facing women, mothers, and families, mobilizing massive grassroots actions to highlight real world experiences. As part of the national KidsWell initiative, MomsRising is working with KidsWell Partners to enhance their social media and grassroots efforts to work toward ensuring all children have access to health care.   • MomsRising Voices Support for Local Governments’ Commitment to Reducing Number of Uninsured

    MomsRising: MomsRising blogged about the efforts of the mayors and city governments of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Dallas, Texas to reduce the number of uninsured children in their respective cities. Hattiesburg recently received a National League of Cities’ E³ Health Initiative grant to enroll over 6,000 eligible, but uninsured, children and families in Medicaid and CHIP. In addition, Momsrising will deliver a giant thank you card to Dallas Mayor Rawlings in appreciation of his work to decrease the number of uninsured children.

  • KidsWell Partners Call on Congress to Renew CHIP Funding

    MomsRising, FL, NY: Kidswell partners across the country called on the U.S. House of Representatives to vote in support of  HR 2, a bi-partisan bill that would extend CHIP funding for two years. MomsRising circulated an open letter calling on Congress to pass HR 2 and keep key improvements to the program’s eligibility and enrollment. In addition, The Children’s Trust, Health Care for All New York, and the Center for Public Policy Priorities encouraged their partners to call their Representatives and urge them to support the bill.

     

  • KidsWell Partners Comment on Texas Medicaid Proposal

    MomsRising, YI, TX: KidsWell partners, MomsRising, Young Invincibles, Texans Care for Children, and the Children’s Defense Fund-Texas, joined ten other organizations in responding to Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick’s Medicaid proposal. The proposal seeks permission to further restrict Texas’s Medicaid program. The joint press release calls on state leaders to reject the proposal and instead expand Medicaid and accept funding from the federal government.

  • MomsRising Members Visit Capitol Hill in Support of Medicaid

    MomsRising: MomsRising members visited Capitol Hill and met with Senators to express their support for Medicaid funding. In addition to Senate staff meetings, MomsRising members delivered story booklets, an open letter with over 10,000 signatures, and small rubber ducks to remind Congress to, “Keep Families Afloat: Protect and Support Medicaid.”

  • MomsRising Asks Members to Help Thank Jacksonville Leaders

    MomsRising: MomsRising encouraged members to thank Mayor Alvin Brown and other city leaders for their role in securing a National League of Cities grant. The grant will be used to help enroll children in Medicaid and CHIP. 

  • KidsWell Partners Host CHIP Call

    First Focus, MomsRising, YI: KidsWell Partners First Focus, MomsRising, and Young Invincibles invited members to join a call to discuss the future of CHIP. The call was led by policy and advocacy experts and explored the program’s background, what is at stake if the program is not extended, and how individuals can take action to advocate for the program’s extension.

  • KidsWell Partners Respond to President’s Budget

    CDF, MomsRising, NCLR, YI: Children’s Defense Fund issued a press release about President Obama’s 2015 budget proposal. The press release discusses a number of proposed expanded investments that would benefit children and families, including four additional years of funding for CHIP. Other KidsWell partners also weighed in on the President’s budget: MomsRising blogged about the budget, Young Invincibles published a fact sheet, and National Council of La Raza issued a press release.


  • MomsRising to Deliver Giant Thank You to Pittsburgh Mayor

    MomsRising: Pittsburgh MomsRising volunteers are delivering a giant thank you card to Mayor Peduto in appreciation of his administration’s work to reduce the number of uninsured children and their families.  MomsRising is asking for those interested to sign the card by December 9th.

  • MomsRising Urges Congress to extend CHIP funding

    MomsRising: MomsRising organized DC-area mothers to deliver petition signatures and storybooks to members of Congress encouraging them to extend CHIP funding through 2019. The storybook contains over 100 stories highlighting CHIP’s impact across the country. 

  • MomsRising Touts Successful Letter to the Editor Campaign Highlighting CHIP Petition

    MomsRising: After successfully collecting 20,000 petition signatures to extend CHIP funding, MomsRising members published letters to the editor  in The Dallas Morning News, The Daily Camera, The Adirondack Daily Enterprise, Democrat & Chronicle, and Times Union on the same topic. 230 members submitted letters to papers nationwide urging Congress to extend funding for the program as soon as possible.

  • KidsWell Partners Call on Governor Brown to Support Enhanced CHIP funding

    MomsRising, CA: KidsWell partners MomsRising, Children Now, Children’s Defense Fund – California, PICO California, The Children’s Partnership and over forty other organizations sent  a letter to Governor Brown urging him to respond to a Congressional letter of inquiry about renewing CHIP funding. DHCS recently indicated their support of renewing CHIP and committed to responding to Congress soon.

  • Kidswell Partners Support Bill to Strengthen Stakeholder Input for Children in Medi-Cal

    MomsRising, CA: Over 50 organizations, including KidsWell grantees, MomsRising, Children Now, Children’s Defense Fund – California, PICO California, and The Children’s Partnership, signed onto a letter to the California Legislature strongly supporting the passage of AB 357 to modify the name, scope, and structure of the Healthy Families Advisory Panel. The letter strongly urges the legislature to support the bill as a way to ensure providers, families, and stakeholders representing enrollees have a voice to address issues affecting children in Medi-Cal.

    MomsRising & FL: MomsRising and KidsWell Florida co-hosted a #WellnessWed Twitter chat on March 19, 2014 discussing Florida’s pending KidCare bill that would eliminate the five year waiting period for legally residing immigrant youth. The bill is now with the Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee.   

  • MomsRising Hosts House Party with Jill Biden

    MomsRising: MomsRising kicked off its health care house party campaign in Dallas with the help of Second Lady Jill Biden, community college teacher and wife of Vice President Joe Biden.  Fifteen women joined the party to learn about why Medicaid expansion is important and how to enroll in health coverage.  Throughout the campaign, MomsRising will provide toolkits with information on coverage options and enrollment to people interested in hosting gatherings in their communities.

    First Focus & MomsRising:  Both First Focus and MomsRising released sign-on letters to advocate for continued CHIP funding.  Organizations must sign-on to First Focus’ letter by February 14, 2014; individual sign-on to MomsRising’s letter is available here.

    MomsRising & FL: MomsRising published a sign-on letter and accompanying blog post advocating for Florida legislators’ support of bills that would eliminate the five-year waiting period for low-income, legal immigrant children to access KidCare.

    YI & MomsRising: Young Invincibles (YI), MomsRising, and other organizations will participate in National Youth Enrollment Day on February 15, 2014 to educate young adults about the importance of health insurance coverage and about the new coverage options available.


  • Action Alert! MomsRising & CA Requested Signatures to Preserve Services in California Healthy Families Transition

    MomsRising & CA: MomsRising, in collaboration with KidsWell California, released a call to action for individuals to sign a letter to California Governor Jerry Brown requesting that he preserve health benefits for children with autism, specifically Applied Behavioral Analysis, as the state continues to transition children from Healthy Families to Medi-Cal.
