MomsRising

MomsRising was developed by women to advocate for critical issues facing women, mothers, and families, mobilizing massive grassroots actions to highlight real world experiences. As part of the national KidsWell initiative, MomsRising is working with KidsWell Partners to enhance their social media and grassroots efforts to work toward ensuring all children have access to health care.   • MomsRising Voices Support for Local Governments’ Commitment to Reducing Number of Uninsured

    MomsRising: MomsRising blogged about the efforts of the mayors and city governments of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Dallas, Texas to reduce the number of uninsured children in their respective cities. Hattiesburg recently received a National League of Cities’ E³ Health Initiative grant to enroll over 6,000 eligible, but uninsured, children and families in Medicaid and CHIP. In addition, Momsrising will deliver a giant thank you card to Dallas Mayor Rawlings in appreciation of his work to decrease the number of uninsured children.

  • MomsRising Hosts House Party with Jill Biden

    MomsRising: MomsRising kicked off its health care house party campaign in Dallas with the help of Second Lady Jill Biden, community college teacher and wife of Vice President Joe Biden.  Fifteen women joined the party to learn about why Medicaid expansion is important and how to enroll in health coverage.  Throughout the campaign, MomsRising will provide toolkits with information on coverage options and enrollment to people interested in hosting gatherings in their communities.

    Through the #Blog4Health campaign, MomsRising is encouraging bloggers to share their experiences and educate readers about the ACA.  The campaign will highlight bloggers who educate their readership and hopes to inspire established bloggers to do the same.

    YI & MomsRising: Young Invincibles (YI), MomsRising, and other organizations will participate in National Youth Enrollment Day on February 15, 2014 to educate young adults about the importance of health insurance coverage and about the new coverage options available.


  • Story Collection Alert! MomsRising Asks About Shopping Experiences on Healthcare.gov

    MomsRising: MomsRising is asking Healthcare.gov users to share their shopping experiences. One user was happily surprised with the experience, stating: “I honestly didn’t know what to expect, but when I got to healthcare.gov it turned out to be very user friendly and it only took me 30 to 40 minutes to sign-up. And that’s because I was taking my time.”

  • MomsRising “Gets the Word Out” on New Coverage Options in California

    MomsRising: MomsRising launched a campaign to get the word out about new health insurance options available in California through the state’s Marketplace and expansion of its Medicaid program (Medi-Cal). As part of the campaign, MomsRising drafted sample language to be used for Twitter and Facebook posts, and emails.
  • MomsRising Launched New Website!

    MomsRising: MomsRising launched a new website, MomsHealth.org, providing information about the new affordable health care options under the ACA. The website also provides informational brochures, a story bank featuring families who are benefiting from the ACA, and a link to the Federally Facilitated Marketplace.

  • MomsRising Responds to Exchange Open Enrollment Kick-Off!!

    MomsRising: MomsRising published a blog post celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and the new health care options available to Latinos through the new Marketplaces. The post features statistics about the Latino community, including, out of 48 million uninsured Americans, a third are Latinos and at least half will qualify for financial assistance to help pay for health insurance.

     

  • MomsRising and TWAH Published Marketing Materials on Benefits of ACA for Texans

    MomsRising and TX: MomsRising, in collaboration with KidsWell Texas, also posted The ACA is Here to Stay: 4 Ways That’s a Beautiful Thing, highlighting that 44% of Americans are unaware the ACA is in effect and even fewer Texans understand how they will benefit from the law. The post features marketing materials developed by Texas Well and Healthy identifying four ways the ACA is helping Texans.     MomsRising, FL & TX: MomsRising published blog posts in collaboration with their Florida members on the benefits of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Girls Deserve More Options to be Healthy focuses on how the ACA addresses the unique needs of women, including providing preventive care services.  I Was Uninsured for 10 Years features a story about a woman who was uninsured for most of her twenties, the experiences she had, and how women will benefit from the ACA.

  • MomsRising Works to Recruit the NFL to the Wellness Wonder Team!

    MomsRising: MomsRising launched a petition to urge the National Football League (NFL) to reverse its decision to not educate the public on the benefits of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The petition calls on Commissioner Goodell to reconsider the NFL’s position and help spread the good news about accessible health coverage. As of early August, MomsRising had recruited over 6,000 people to join its Wellness Wonder Campaign and the number of signatures continues to climb!
  • MomsRising Featured in Politico Story on HHS's Efforts to Promote the ACA

    MomsRising: MomsRising was featured in Politico regarding the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) campaign to promote the Affordable Care Act (ACA) across the nation. The article notes that although HHS has invested in advertising, published educational resources, and Secretary Kathleen Sebelius continues to travel the country speaking about reform, collaboration with local, grassroots community and advocacy groups will be critical to spreading the word. Ashley Boyd, Senior Campaign Director for MomsRising was quoted about the importance of messaging and connecting with consumers. “We use the information [HHS] provides that we think will work for our membership — public information that’s available — but we craft our action plan based on our demographics,” said Ms. Boyd,. “One of the things that our members most respond to is the personal stories. They can really make a difference. … That’s a main tactic that we’ve used.”

  • MomsRising Featured as a Guest during HHS First Google Hangout

    MomsRising: On July 19th Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director of MomsRising, was featured as guest during the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ HealthCare.gov Google Hangout. The hangout streamed a live conversation about new resources available on www.HealthCare.gov and the new Health Insurance Marketplace call center.

     

    MomsRising also held its #Wellness Wednesday chat on Twitter with Enroll America’s Get Covered America campaign. The chat focused on personal stories of what health care coverage means to women and their families.
