Florida CHAIN is a statewide consumer health advocacy organization dedicated to improving the health of all Floridians by promoting access to affordable, quality health care. Florida CHAIN provides resources to build the capacities for and linking consumer, community and service organizations with health care advocacy. In addition, Florida CHAIN provides policy education, collaborative networking, training, and communications and organizing tools to the public, allied partners, media and policy makers.     FL: Florida KidsWell Grantees, in collaboration with the Georgetown Health Policy Institute, held a webinar to launch a report on the implications of the ACA’s Supreme Court decision on Florida’s Medicaid Program. The report was highlighted in a guest column in the Tampa Bay Times and the Georgetown Center for Children and Families Say Ahhh! Blog.
  • Florida CHAIN Featured in Media on Importance of the ACA

    During the week of June 11th, Florida CHAIN published an Op-Ed and Editorial (Miami Herald and Tampa Bay Times), and was quoted in three articles  (The Guardian, and Tampa Bay Times) focusing on: (1) the importance of ACA provisions for state residents (e.g., Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) rebates, pre-existing condition standards, premium rate review program) and the state's refusal to implement these provisions and programs; (2) concerns regarding the Supreme Court's imminent ruling on the ACA; and (3) WellCare’s proposal to bid on the state’s new Medicaid managed care plan, which would require that all beneficiaries enroll in the Medicaid Medically Needy Program and pay monthly premiums.

    Florida CHAIN posted a blog post highlighting what the Supreme Court decision means for the state and circulated a six page media clip document highlighting articles featuring the organization and partners from the Florida Health Alliance.
  • Florida CHAIN Issued Press Release on SCOTUS ACA Ruling

    Florida CHAIN issued a press release highlighting that now that the law has been found constitutional it is important to communicate to state residents that health reform is “still alive” despite the fact that state officials have refused to implement ACA related programs in the past. The organization notes that the Governor and legislature have no more excuses and the benefits of the law will win out “over politics and selfish pandering.”
  • Florida CHAIN Released ACA Materials to Spread Education and Support

    Following the Supreme Court oral arguments on the ACA in March, Florida CHAIN called advocates to action by providing materials to spread ACA education and support, highlighting the importance of advocacy between the conclusion of the hearings and the Court's anticipated decision this Summer. The materials include (1) real stories of Florida residents affected by the ACA; (2) examples and tips on writing letters to the editor; and (3) videos of ACA related stories that can be shared on YouTube.
  • Florida CHAIN Published Fact Sheet on Exchange Benefits and ACA Consumer Protections

    • Florida CHAIN published a fact sheet highlighting benefits of the Exchange and the ACA's consumer protections for Florida residents. In addition, Florida CHAIN commented in various news sources regarding the state’s proposed Medicaid cuts and the ACA arguments before the Supreme Court: (1) Laura Goodhue, Executive Director of Florida CHAIN, was interviewed by NPR and The Palm Beach Post regarding Florida’s proposed Medicaid cuts; and (2) Florida CHAIN’s efforts to publicize stories of Floridians benefiting from the law were highlighted here.
