Health Care For All New York (HCFANY) is a statewide coalition of more than 115 organizations dedicated to winning affordable, comprehensive, and high quality health care for all New Yorkers. HCFANY works to bring consumer voices to the policy conversation, ensuring that real consumer concerns are reflected. HCFANY also provides expert policy analysis, advocacy, and education on important health reform issues and policies that affect New Yorkers around the state.     NY: On March 20th, Health Care for All New York (HCFANY) will host a conference call discussing the State Legislature’s budget proposals. The call will include a discussion of HCFANY’s budget priorities and advocacy tips.  Registration is available now.
  • HCFANY Blogs About Future of Child Health Plus

    NY: Health Care for All New York blogged about the future of Child Health Plus, New York’s CHIP program.  The blog provides a brief background on the program, noting that 500,000 children in the state currently rely on CHIP. If Congress does not extend CHIP, the state stands to lose up to $950 million in federal funds and state matching funds in 2016.

    NY: On March 3, Health Care for All New York is hosting a budget advocacy day in Albany. The day includes a briefing and meetings with key legislators and staff. Registration is available through February 27th.

  • HFCANY Testifies at State Budget Hearing

    NY: Health Care for All New York (HCFANY) submitted testimony to the New York Senate and Assembly fiscal committees during the Health/Medicaid budget hearing. The testimony explains HCFANY’s general support for the Governor’s proposed budget, but opposes allowing extra time for hospitals to adjust to indigent care funding requirements and eliminating prescriber prevails and spousal refusal. The testimony also urges the Legislature to allow for expansions in Medicaid coverage beyond the global cap and increase consumer engagement in the development of a value-based payment system.

  • CSS Guest Blogs about NY’s Governor’s Budget

    NY: Elisabeth R. Benjamin, vice president of health initiatives for Community Service Society of New York, wrote a guest blog for Health Care for All New York about Governor Cuomo’s budget bill. The blog supports the proposed new financing mechanism for the state Marketplace and the proposed $2.5 million in state funding for the Community Health Advocates (CHA) program, which provides navigator and application assistance.

  • KidsWell Partners Circulate Letter Urging Congress to Extend MIECHV Program Funding

    CDF, First Focus, NY: KidsWell Partners, Children’s Defense Fund, First Focus, and Health Care for All New York, signed on to a letter urging Congress to extend funding for the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program before the end of this legislative session or as one of the first acts of the next legislative session. MIECHV funding is set to expire in March 2015. Organizations are encouraged to add their name to the letter by November 7th.

    NY: Health Care For All New York (HCFANY) blogged about its final advocacy push to include the Basic Health Program (BHP), consumer protections from out-of-network medical bills, and consumer assistance program funding in the NY state budget.  HCFANY also published a policy brief and placed newspaper advertisements supporting the BHP as part of its efforts.

  • Sign Up Here! HCFANY Releases Sign-On Letter in Support of New York’s Budget

    NY: Health Care For All New York (HCFANY) wrote an organizational sign-on letter urging the State Legislature to adopt provisions in Governor Cuomo’s 2014-2015 Executive Budget that impact consumers’ health including: the Basic Health Program; out-of-network protections; and support for consumer assistance programs. Organizations must sign-on to the letter by February 26, 2014.

  • HCFANY Submits Testimony On NY Executive Budget

    NY: Health Care For All New York (HCFANY) submitted testimony on Governor Cuomo’s 2014-2015 proposed state budget. HCFANY supports the proposed inclusion of: the Basic Health Program; adequate provider networks; and support for consumer assistance programs.  HCFANY opposes the elimination of spousal and parental refusal for certain Medicaid enrollees and a repeal of “prescriber prevails” in which the prescriber may override a managed care formulary or plan preferred drug.

  • Health Care for All New York To Host 2014 Annual Meeting

    NY: Health Care for All New York (HCFANY) will host its 2014 Annual Meeting on January 9, 2014. The meeting will discuss how the ACA is affecting New Yorkers and HCFANY’s plans to address critical health care issues during the upcoming legislative session.  Registration and the meeting agenda are available now.

  • New York Advocates Hold Emergency Coalition Call and Publish Recommendations on ACA Implementation in State Budget

    NY: Health Care For All New York held an emergency coalition call on March 11th to discuss ACA implementation issues addressed in the New York State 2014 FY budget, including key issues on Medicaid Expansion and the Exchange. The call agenda included a breakdown of budget priorities by Elisabeth Benjamin and Carrie Tracey of Community Service Society, and various legislative advocacy activities, such as organizing a sign-on letter, attending a legislative press event, and calling important legislative officials.  In addition, the Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy published its recommendations on the budget.
  • HCFANY Advocated for Authorization of a State-Based Exchange

    HCFANY devoted many of its blog posts (here, herehere and here) to the authorization of an  Exchange and urged individuals to contact New York Senators and the Governor to support implementation of a state-based Exchange.
  • HCFANY Launched Online Campaign to Support State-Based Exchange

    Health Care For All New York (HCFANY) released an online advertising campaign on various media sites such as the Daily News, City and State and the Albany Times Union to urge the State Legislature to support a state-based Exchange. HCFANY was also instrumental in pushing the New York Times to publish an editorial on the importance of including authority for an Exchange in the final State Budget.
