National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP)

The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) is an independent academy of state health policymakers working together to identify emerging issues, develop policy solutions, and promote excellence in state health policy and practice. NASHP is a non-profit organization that provides a forum for constructive, nonpartisan work across branches and agencies of state government on critical health issues facing states. With support from The Atlantic Philanthropies, NASHP has established Children in the Vanguard, a learning network of 10 states’ Medicaid and CHIP officials committed to maintaining focus on children’s coverage in the context of health care reform. NASHP’s work also includes supporting State Refor(u)m, a website where state officials and stakeholders collaborate and share information, resources and their experiences around health reform implementation.     NASHP: The National Academy for State Health Policy updated its marketplace renewal strategies chart. The chart includes a breakdown of each state’s processes for Marketplace renewals including whether the Marketplace will auto-renew Qualified Health Plans, the approach to tax subsidy redeterminations are, and consumer communications to assist with renewal.

The chart highlights whether the benefits are offered as part of a qualified health plan or through a stand-alone policy, and if the state requires the purchase of pediatric dental benefits.

    NASHP: The National Academy of State Health Policy (NASHP) released a draft agenda for its 26th Annual State Health Policy ConferenceWhat’s Brewing in State Health Policy – to be held on October 9-11, 2013. The agenda includes sessions on lessons learned from the Maximizing Enrollment Project, financing and enrollment for Medicaid Expansion, mental health and habilitation essential health benefits, and various roundtables.   • Webinar Alert! NASHP Held Webinar on Certifying QHPs

    NASHP: State Refor(u)m, an initiative of the National Academy of State Health Policy (NASHP), will held a webinar on May 29th to explore key components of Exchanges’ efforts to certify qualified health plans (QHPs). These key components include, but are not limited to, a review of QHP benefit designs, consumer protections, actuarial value, network adequacy, marketing requirements, accreditation, and rates. The webinar included presentations from three states with different approaches – Connecticut, Oregon and Kansas – on lessons learned and best practices around QHP certification. The meeting materials and webinar recording are available to download.
