Founded in 1969, the National Health Law Program (NHeLP) protects and advances the health rights of low-income and underserved individuals and families. The oldest nonprofit of its kind, NHeLP advocates, educates and litigates at the federal and state levels.     NHeLP: The National Health Law Program (NHeLP) published an e-newsletter outlining the organization’s top priorities and goals for 2015. The newsletter explains NHeLP’s goals and expectations for many issue areas, including: ACA implementation; Medicaid expansion; CHIP; and reproductive health.

  • NHeLP Posts Webinar on Rules for MAGI Determination

    NHeLP: The National Health Law Program released materials from a webinar it hosted as part of CMS’ navigator and assister training series. The webinar focuses on using Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) to calculate a consumer’s total household income for purposes of determining their eligibility for tax credits and subsidies for coverage purchased through a marketplace, as well as eligibility for Medicaid and CHIP.

  • NHeLP Publishes Series on Medicaid Managed Care

    NHeLP: The National Health Law Program published a series on Medicaid Managed Care model provisions. Each issue tackles a specific aspect of  managed care, including beneficiary grievances and appeals; enrollment and disenrollment; network adequacy; accessibility and language access; and quality and transparency (forthcoming), and provides alternative model provisions for policymakers and advocates to utilize when updating regulations, contracts, and policies. 

  • Know Your SEPs! NHeLP Releases Issue Brief on Special Enrollment Periods

    NHeLP: The National Health Law Program released an issue brief  reviewing the rules related to special enrollment periods (SEPs). The issue brief explains who may qualify for an SEP and how to apply for coverage outside of the Open Enrollment Period. 

  • CCF To Host May State Partner Call on Network Adequacy

    CCF & NHeLP: The Georgetown Center for Children and Families will host a State Partner call on May 20, 2014 to discuss network adequacy rules across Medicaid, CHIP and marketplaces.  The National Health Law Program will serve as a subject matter expert during the webinar.   
  • Children Now and NHeLP Applaud New Medi-Cal Continuity of Care Website

    NHeLP & CA: Children Now and the National Health Law Program, in collaboration with other health advocacy groups, assisted the Department of Health Care Services with the development of a Continuity of Care webpage to support the State’s transition of Medi-Cal beneficiaries into managed care plans.
