The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) issued a press release
highlighting a press briefing with Janet Marguia, President and CEO of NCLR, Representative Xavier Becerra (D-CA), Jason Furman, Assistant to the President for Economic Policy and Principal Deputy Director of the National Economic Council, and Julie Rodriguez, Associate Director of Latino Affairs and Immigration of the White House Office of Public Engagement, to discuss how to address the federal budget “with a balanced approach that protects vital programs for Latinos, which could be potentially gutted by automatic cuts.” Jennifer Ng’andu, director of health and civil rights policy projects with NCLR, published a blog post
on the Huffington Post on how cuts to Medicaid are being discussed as “short term fixes” without considering the individuals who will be affected by the cuts. NCLR also issued a call to action urging individuals to send a letter
to Congress telling them to vote “NO on Plan B”, which would eliminate tax credits for working families.
