  • Children Now Submitted Comments on HHS' 2011 Essential Health Benefit Bulletin

Children Now submitted comments on HHS’ EHB Bulletin, issued in December 2011, which outlines the intended regulatory approach the Department plans to use in defining Essential Health Benefits (EHB) in the Exchanges. Specifically, the comments recommend that HHS: (1) define a core or “floor” EHB standard for children; (2) evaluate additional options for pediatric vision coverage; (3) provide more guidance and protections for pediatric dental coverage; (4) limit and closely scrutinize benefit design flexibility; (5) place greater emphasis on the inclusion of preventive care; and (6) require that the EHB selection process is open and transparent. Fellow KidsWell grantees Children’s Defense Fund – California, PICO California and The Children’s Partnership were signatories to the submission. In addition, Children Now participated in a briefing the Exchange Board held on the topic.
