NAM Highlights ACA Coverage Options for New Yorkers with Diabetes

NAM: New America Media published an article highlighting the high Diabetes-related mortality rates in New York City. Today, New Yorkers with Diabetes can access coverage under the New York Bridge Plan, developed in 2010 to provide services to high risk individuals including those with diabetes. The Bridge Plan will close on January 1, 2014 when the ACA is implemented and insurers will no longer be able to deny coverage or charge higher premiums to individuals with pre-existing conditions like Diabetes. New Yorkers will be able to purchase coverage through the state’s health insurance exchange, an online marketplace for health insurance.
